Challenge 4: WayWiser Beginner Trail Running Series. Sponsored by: Tailwind
Thu, 23rd Feb - Wed, 1st Mar, Multi Day, Auckland, NZ
Description
This is the next instalment of the WayWiser Beginner Trail Running Challenges. Hell yes. As always, go out solo, or with some mates, and complete this anytime from Wednesday Feb 22nd to Wednesday March 1st.
Our challenge this week is sponsored by Tailwind (http://www.tailwindnutrition.co.nz/). They are graciously throwing down all this week's prizes.
Cascade Kauri Beginner Bush Run: Approx 7kms
Start out on Auckland City Walk, trail head at the carpark. Take this to the Upper Kauri Track, turn right and get ready to go uuuuuuuuppppp!
Take Upper Kauri to the intersection with Long Road Track, turn left. Stay on Long Road Track until you come to the intersection with Fenceline Track, turn left. Fenceline will take you down to the dam (weeeeeeeee!). Once you reach the bottom, turn left to stay on Fenceline Track (don't cross the dam).
Keep right to stay on Fenceline Track. When you reach the end, make a right (this is a little connector bit of track) and then a left on Anderson Track, which then turns into Auckland City Walk. When you reach the road, turn left and run back down to the carpark. You're done!
Cascade Kauri Intermediate Bush Run: Approx 12kms
Follow the directions above. Once you reach the bottom of Fenceline Track go right and cross the dam. Walk up the road a tiny bit and you'll see some stairs going down on your left hand side - that's the Waitakere Tramline Track. When the Tramline Track deadends, make a left (you have no other choice) and then you'll be making a right at your next available opportunity.
This part of Anderson Track will dump you out onto Scenic Drive. Turn left and run up the road, approximately half a km, you will see a turnoff on your left, take it. You're looking for a trailhead, it's the Pukematekeo Track. This will take you all the way back to Falls Road. Make a left and run back down to the carpark. You're done!

Overall
Beautiful track, lots of mature Kauri. Trail is fine to run in normal running shoes (I couldn't wear my trail shoes)
A great run! Right on my way home.
Awesome track - even if I did it late!
Wasn't my favourite trail so far - so much up hill!!! But it was easier to follow than the previous trail running challenges so for once we didn't get lost hahaa
Great work everyone! The Cascades definitely have their fair share of hills, but climbing hills builds character, right?!
Anyway glad everyone enjoyed the run, it's special place, one of my personal faves :)
This week's winner is Naomi Ambrose, for bringing several other WayWisers along with her to take on the challenge. Congrats Naomi - you won yourself a Tailwind variety pack.
